Koala ResearchMeet ... EmilyThis very beautiful lady suddenly appeared in Red Gum Gully in May 2007 at the end of a long drought. The lovely big River Red Gum trees there had absorbed the first of the life-giving rain, and were the first to send out new leaves. Being taller than most koala girls, Emily would have been very hungry, so maybe she went on a journey, found these delicious trees and then we found her! She did seem surprised to see us, like a koala that has not seen people before! She is quite gorgeous, with big fluffy ears, a dark face and huge expressive eyes. She has two distinctive dark spots on her right cheek, beside her nose, and a pale upper lip (like a moustache if she was a boy!) Her back is auburn, her head is grey - she's very colourful actually! She is named for 10 year old Emily from Los Angeles, USA, by her grandparents Dennis and Kimberley who were travelling with us the second time we saw her.
