Female Koala
"Our sudden meeting with this young koala
in a wild and rugged section of the Australian bush was a shock to all of us
- especially the koala. Her Yellow Gum Tree was not very big, so she just
stayed where she was - about 2 metres off the ground!”
Janine Duffy
Koalas don't usually prefer Yellow Gum - Eucalyptus leucoxylon - but are often seen sitting in these common trees in the Brisbane Ranges and You Yangs parks. We have actually seen them eat them occasionally too! Manna Gums are
the most popular tree however they often shelter in non-food trees as well.
There is normally only one Koala in a group of trees unless they are
mating or have a Joey.
