Meet ... Alpie (Alpohi)

Bushfire update 6 February 2006: we haven't seen Alpie since the fire. His area is very badly burnt, and we doubt that he could have survived. There is still some hope - other wildlife shelters in the region have taken some animals, and we are currently trying to find out whether any of them have him.

A new fella living around Uncle Tom's area, who always seems very nervous about something. Maybe he's heard the legends about old Uncle Tom, and is afraid that he will come back to haunt him!

Alpie looks old, but maybe he's had a hard life so far. We first met him on 22nd November 2004, with a group of Swiss people led by Stefanie, and they named after the Grandfather character in the Heidi story.

Lately, Alpie has been rather hard to find.
The sad passing of Tess has left a big hole in the koala community in Alpie's area - even Ingrid has moved south to be with friends (Daisy and Poppy). We think they miss Tess and Uncle Tom and find the area lonely without other koalas around.

However, we have confidence that as time heals all wounds, Alpie and Ingrid will move back to their homes and new koalas will come in to live.
