Koala Tree Seed Planting

About: Help us sow the seeds for koalas’ future! January is the best time to sow the seeds of our koala trees for the year: River Red Gums, Grey Box & Red Box gum trees that we will plant in June, July & August. Its fun and easy, and everyone can help – no matter how old you are!

Come along any time after 4.30pm and be prepared to get your hands dirty. You will be filling little seedling pots with soil, sprinkling eucalyptus seed over the top, or washing pots. If you have space in your backyard or balcony (with full sun) you can even take home a box of baby trees to grow. Then you can plant them beside a river near the You Yangs, so that Koala babies can have a home! Its very rewarding and requires no experience at all.

Free to attend, but you must register before the event so we can give you the address privately. Register by emailing info@koalaclancyfoundation.org.au

When: anytime between 4.30pm and 7pm, Monday 14 January 2018

Where: Port Melbourne (exact address provided to those who register their attendance by email)

Can anyone join: yes

Cost: Free

Bird Walk for Beginners

Westgate Park

About: Would you like a fun, all ages, hobby that you can do anywhere with minimal equipment or expense?  Join experienced Wildlife Guide Janine Duffy on a Bird Walk for Beginners at Westgate Park in Port Melbourne.

Janine has had fun birdwatching all around the world with people of every level – from teenagers who’ve never used binoculars, to super-keen birders who’ve seen 6,000+ species.  She believes birdwatching should be relaxing, non-competitive and never intimidating.

This morning walk is suitable for anyone with an interest in nature.  If you don’t know what a magpie is, this will be fun.  If you can tell a Long-billed Corella from a Little Corella, this will be fun.  And kids are very welcome!

This special event is a being run as a fundraiser for the Port Phillip Greens to support the election campaign of Steph Hodgins-May, candidate for the federal government seat of Melbourne Ports.  Echidna Walkabout and Koala Clancy Foundation are honoured to volunteer their time to this event, as we are confident that an extra Greens member in the lower house of parliament will help birds, koalas and all wildlife by supporting environmental legislation.

This event is a great chance to meet like-minded people dedicated to preserving our environment.

Greens Koala Tree Planting

for National Tree Day

About: This special National Tree Day event is a being run as a fundraiser for the Port Phillip Greens to support the election campaign of Steph Hodgins-May, candidate for the federal government seat of Melbourne Ports.  Koala Clancy Foundation and Echidna Walkabout are confident that an extra Greens member in the lower house of parliament will help koalas by supporting environmental legislation.

Koalas are already victims of politics – koalas have become locally extinct in some areas due to political decisions including tree clearing laws in Queensland, mining approvals in New South Wales and budget slashing for the National Parks Services and scientific research organisations Australia-wide. We need votes in parliament against the threat of the Adani Carmichael mine on the Great Barrier Reef, the Shenhua mine in NSW, fracking, fossil fuel industry donations and further budget cuts to the CSIRO; and votes for the Great Forest National Park in VIC, the Great Koala National Park in NSW and to stand up for Renewable Energy, Science & Innovation, The Great Barrier Reef, the DSE and Parks Victoria.

This event is a great chance to meet like-minded people dedicated to preserving our environment.

When: Sunday 30 July

Where: the You Yangs

Can anyone join: Yes, everyone is very welcome.

Cost: $50 adults, $25 for children, $100 Keen Green includes an extra donation or $10 to sponsor a tree if you can’t attend personally.
